I have been a soapmaker and lotion maker for over 20 years and experimented for quite a few good years before that with many hits and misses. It was a learning process.
a peek in my workshop
My first soap scale.
given to me by a neighbour many years ago who enjoyed auctions and garage sales. It's a 1940's commercial scale, accurate to within 2 cents of an ounce. He picked it up for me and lugged it all the way home (trust me, it's not very portable) and gave it to me for good luck and to encourage me to start a business. I still use it for recipes that are too big for my newer digital scales.
It really isn't a glamorous place...but the radio plays some pretty good tunes, and quite often there is dancing involved.
The "kitchen" in production, a batch of soap cooling on the counter. This is a former art room with double sinks and a window for ventilation...perfect.
herbs on top of fragrance oil cupboards, bulk carrier and soap oils under working surface and in bottom cupboards, higher end essential oils in small fridge, wood soap moulds on right. A compact area, but highly functional.
